Legzira & Sidi Ifni
The dramatic red cliffs of Legzira Beach, still guarding one great natural arch, next to the sun-bleached Art Deco streets of Sidi Ifni.
Legzira Beach is famous for its ochre-red cliffs and, once, for two natural rock arches carved by the Atlantic. The northern arch collapsed in September 2016 — the sea and the rock finally settled an argument that had been running for centuries — but the southern arch still stands, and at low tide, in the honeyed light of late afternoon, it remains one of the most photographed formations on Morocco's coast. It is worth being accurate about the collapse rather than surprising you on arrival: one arch, not two, but genuinely spectacular still.
A few minutes south sits Sidi Ifni, which belonged to Spain until 1969 and still looks it: pastel Art Deco buildings, wide colonial-era plazas, and a harbour where wooden fishing boats are lowered onto the sand by crane, since there is no natural port. The whole area moves at the pace of a place time slightly forgot, and I think that is exactly its charm.
The surviving arch
The southern rock arch at Legzira still stands and is at its best photographed at low tide in late-afternoon light.
Sidi Ifni's Art Deco streets
Pastel-painted buildings from the town's decades as a Spanish enclave — a genuinely unusual architectural pocket in Morocco.
The boat-lowering harbour
With no natural port, fishing boats are still lowered to the beach and back by crane — an odd, memorable sight at work.
Long empty beach walks
Legzira's sand stretches for kilometres beneath the cliffs, with far fewer people than the coast further north.
Mild coastal weather, clear light for photographing the cliffs and arch, comfortable walking temperatures.
Warm but rarely extreme, with the coast's usual Atlantic breeze.
Hotter inland but the sea keeps the coast itself reasonably comfortable — check tide times for the beach.
How Legzira & Sidi Ifni fit your journey
This pairing anchors the far southern stretch of the Atlantic coast road — a natural extension south of Agadir and Mirleft, before the coast becomes noticeably more remote toward Dakhla.

He is careful to set expectations accurately here — one arch remains, and it is still worth the drive.
