Paradise Valley
The palm-filled canyon in the hills behind Agadir and Taghazout — turquoise rock pools, oleander and argan country.
Behind the beaches of the Souss coast, the road to Imouzzer climbs into the hills of the Ida-Outanane, and half an hour up it drops you at the lip of a canyon full of palms. Paradise Valley is the stretch of the Tamraght river where the gorge narrows and the water gathers in a chain of smooth rock pools — turquoise when the light hits them, cold enough to make you shout, and reached by an easy walk down among boulders, oleander and argan trees.
It has been a favourite escape since the hippie era put Morocco's Atlantic coast on the map, and these days it belongs to everyone: surf-camp crowds stretching sore shoulders, Moroccan families with picnics, walkers heading further up the valley. Come early on a weekday and you will still find a pool to yourself, with nothing but frogs and falling water for company.
Catch the Atlantic swell
Morning point breaks and argan hills on the laid-back coast at Taghazout.
Swim the rock pools
A chain of natural basins carved into pale rock — the water is snow-fed cool even when the coast is hot.
The walk in
A shady 20–30 minute path drops from the road into the gorge, through palms and past small seasonal cafés.
Argan country
These hills are the heart of argan production — cooperatives on the Imouzzer road show how the oil is pressed.
Higher up the valley
Keep driving toward Imouzzer for honey country, big views and far fewer people.
Pools at their fullest after the winter rains, hills green, temperatures perfect for the walk in.
Warm and quiet — though after a dry summer the pools can run low.
Hot and at its busiest; water levels drop. Go at opening-of-day or choose the coast instead.
How Paradise Valley fits your journey
This is the classic half-day inland from a coast stay: an easy morning loop from Taghazout or Agadir up the Imouzzer road, pools and lunch in the gorge, and back in time for the sunset session.

His coast weeks pair the surf at Taghazout with this valley — saltwater one day, freshwater the next.
