Taghazout gets the name recognition, but Tamraght is where a lot of the same coastline gets lived rather than photographed. The village sits a few minutes south along the same stretch of Souss coast, wedged between the water and terraces of banana plants, and it has grown into its own quiet scene of surf schools, yoga terraces and long-stay guesthouses without losing the fishing-village bones underneath.

This is where I send guests who want the surf-coast lifestyle without the crowds at the main Taghazout breaks — mellow beginner-friendly waves close to the village, a slower pace in the evenings, and enough good coffee and tagine stalls that nobody goes hungry. Give it three or four days minimum; the point of Tamraght is settling in, not ticking it off.

Book a surf lesson for the first morning, not the last — you will want the rest of the stay to actually use what you learn. — M.
WHAT TO DOMustapha’s picks

Catch the Atlantic swell

Morning point breaks and argan hills on the laid-back coast at Taghazout.

Beginner surf lessons

Several long-established surf schools work the gentle beach breaks right in front of the village — the easiest place on this coast to learn.

Yoga on the rooftops

Morning and sunset sessions run from guesthouse terraces overlooking the water — a natural pairing with a surf trip.

Walk the banana groves

Inland paths cut between plantations and small farms — a green, unhurried contrast to the beach five minutes away.

Five minutes to Taghazout

The bigger, more famous point breaks are a short walk or drive north whenever you want more challenging waves.

WHEN TO GO
SEP – NOVPRIME

Consistent swell, warm water and thinning summer crowds — many surfers' favourite window.

DEC – MAYPRIME

The main surf season — reliable waves, mild air, cooler water. Wetsuit weather but excellent conditions.

JUN – AUGGOOD

Warmer water and smaller, gentler swell — good for beginners, though less exciting for experienced surfers.

How Tamraght fits your journey

Tamraght slots into a Souss coast stay alongside Taghazout and a day trip inland to Paradise Valley — an easy, low-key base for guests building a surf-and-slow-travel week rather than a fast-moving tour.

A COAST WEEK
DAYS 1–4
Tamraght — you are here
Surf lessons, yoga, banana-grove walks
DAY 2 or 3
Paradise Valley
A half-day inland to the rock pools
DAY 5
Agadir or Taghazout
Beach city or bigger breaks to close the week
GOOD TO KNOW
Getting there: About 25 minutes from Agadir airport by road; grand taxis and buses also run the short hop from Taghazout.
Surf level: The beach breaks in front of the village suit beginners and improvers well; stronger surfers usually head to Taghazout's points.
Pace: This is a slow-travel village by design — come for several days, not a single night.
